Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed into law a bill that outlaws spending on diversity, equity and inclusion programs at public colleges and universities, saying at a news conference the “whole experiment of DEI is coming to an end in the state of Florida.”
The sweeping legislation, HB 999/SB 266, states public institutions “may not expend any state or federal funds to promote, support, or maintain any programs or campus activities that … advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, or promote or engage in political or social activism.”
It’s one of three bills the governor signed Monday as part of an overall education reform package.
At the news conference, DeSantis said SB 266 will “reorient our universities back to their traditional mission, and part of that traditional mission is to treat people as individuals, not to try to divvy them up based on any type of superficial characteristics.”

Sounds good to me.
Amen to this! True civil rights leaders of the early 1960s would be horrified to see the overt promotion of segregation/special rights/affirmative action/blah blah blah going on today. And it is no longer even “separate but equal”, but “separate and special and privileged!”
Biblically speaking, we are all one race - sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Let it be so.
As others have said, where are all the other red states on this. I can think of several that could just get rid of all this liberal garbage with the stroke of a pen a lot easier than florida can. Lime AL, MS, SC, TN, AR, etc. After all it is PUBLIC schools, the taxpayers fund this garbage. Every state no matter how conservative has a little hell hole of an university diametrically opposed to every single thing that is right and wholesome in the human experience. Universities are the heart of human decay and depravity. There are no group of people on the planet that are less qualified to opine on anything to do with academia than those working within academia.
Well done, Gov. DeSantis!
Nice.
great!
these programs are perverting our colleges with open racist discriminations and advocacy for even more (!)
they are so blatantly illegal that they belong in the trash with their proponents in jail
and citizens should be filing against these racists both in court and at the district attorney’s office with criminal complaints
As someone who has asked this question before, one of the answers you might get is that DeSantis has received permission from the deep state to enact this law or is pandering to the MAGA crowd when he doesn’t really support the law.
“Ron is not a winner”
Affirmative action, racial preferences and CRT need to be eliminated. Any law that “allows” them is invalid and not binding.
That the deep state would encourage legislation to oppose DIE programs is not even superficially plausible.
And the idea DeSantis is “pandering” to the MAGA crowd when he doesn't really support the law is suspicious . . . it is well known that much of MAGA crowd will wait for MAGA leadership to flash a signal in support of DeSantis’ legislation - that hasn't happened yet - before considering any pandering proposal.
Twisting these supposed strategies into their opposites can't be explained - not even by Operation Chaos.
My thoughts are, regardless of the reason the law was enacted what difference does it make, is the law good or bad, the reason why is immaterial
When a Governor has a legislature that is totally his own party he can do all kinds of things because nobody can stop them.
That is why Gavin Newsom can get whatever he wants in California.
If I wanted to push DeSantis, I would do a rubber stamp on every issue that a conservative wants in a state where nobody can stop them and say “Gee look!”
Trying to do the same on a national stage is a whole different thing. Success is not guaranteed in any way.
The Deep State wants Trump gone. Supporting and allowing DeSantis to look the conservative hero in Florida is totally doable on their part.
And the Deep State wants DeSantis gone too, if for no other reason than to try and get Florida - the nation's third largest state - into the reliably Blue State column.
If I were the Deep State I would have Trump destroy DeSantis - you know call him names like Meat Head or DeSanctimonious. I would also have Trump alienate DeSantis supporters by saying DeSantis is being “too tough” on abortion; painting DeSantis as too tough on Disney; and styling him as a loser. This would split Republican voters 75 percent/25 percent at a time the GOP can't afford to lose even one percent of the base and still win at the national level.
Hardly. DeSantis and the GOPe work together. They never lay a finger on him.
Thank you, Governor DeSantis, for making all the RIGHT moves.
We were talking Deep State; now you are referencing GOPe. GOPe is only a portion of Deep State.
If by “they” you mean GOPe you should take time to read opposition to DeSantis by Christie, Hutchinson, Haley, Sununu, Noem, and Kevin McCarthy.
GOPe is not for DeSantis. These people would faint if they had to go to a cocktail party and defend opposition to Disney's grooming practices. There is absolutely no doubt some anti-Trump forces want to use DeSantis to weaken Trump - before they attack and destroy DeSantis and go full bore to nominate a Rockefeller Republican; someone sure to lose.
Meanwhile, others want to use Trump to attack and weaken DeSantis before destroying Trump. But please don't tell Trump anyone is trying to use him to game the process.
