Joe Scarborough should get his facts straight the next time he's tempted to accuse a Republican of being "politically depraved." Today's Morning Joe featured excerpts from Jacob Soboroff's Today show interview of Gavin Newsom, in which the California Governor floated the possibility that Ron DeSantis might be guilty of "kidnapping" for having flown migrants from New Mexico to Sacramento.
Commenting on it, Scarborough said:
"I also think about flying immigrants up to the Naval Observatory. A lot of them in t-shirts, and dumping them outside of the Vice President's residence on Christmas Eve, where it's freezing. Again, they think that they're owning Kamala Harris. All they're doing is showing just, just the core of their existence.
"And on Christmas Eve to do this to little three, four, five-year-old children in t-shirts, dumping them in freezing weather? For a political stunt? It seems politically depraved to me at least. And I think Newsom is underlining that fact now in an important way."
Except . . . DeSantis didn't fly migrants to DC and have them dropped off near Kamala Harris's residence in late December 2022. That was the work of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, as he has made clear.
For that matter, while some of the migrants were apparently wearing T-shirts, they were not left to suffer in the cold. As Politico has reported, employees of the relief agency working with the city of Washington:
"had blankets ready for the people who arrived on Christmas Eve and moved them quickly onto waiting buses for a ride to an area church."

And putting all of them them in very isolated camps above the arctic circle, say 50+ miles out of Nome, would be a reasonable way to deal with them. Quonset huts are well sorted out and cheap and there really wouldn’t be a need to guard them during most of the year.

It was TX Gov. Abbott who arranged that, but the kids were NOT dumped in the cold: as Politico reported, aid workers were standing by to meet them with blankets, and quickly got them onto buses, where they were transported to churches.
From the moment of crossing the border.....there is no plan. There’s no migrant plan. There is no Biden plan. There is no Homeland Security plan. If the guy/gal wants to take off to LA....or Baltimore, or Chicago....so be it.
I don’t see how this story ends in a positive manner. You don’t want 100,000 migrants wandering around NY City, LA, or SF.

I think the border should be closed, I don’t think we should have any of this. But if there’s a policy to have an open border, then I think the sanctuary jurisdictions should be the ones that have to bear that. We are not a sanctuary in Florida and yes we note people want to come and so the more we can divert before we even have to get there is good for our state.A place like California they give benefits, they give unemployment checks, they do all that and so you can see why some of those folks were interested in going that direction. In Florida, we have gone the opposite way, we say were going to have a legal workforce, we’re not going to have benefits, we’re not going to do that and basically trying to disincentivize it. Other states have tried to incentive it and so I think they should be the ones to pay to do it.
