“The co-founder of Russian tech giant Yandex condemned what he described as Russia’s barbaric war in Ukraine, in some of the most pointed criticism so far from a leader of the country’s business community.
Arkady Volozh, the company’s former chief executive, lamented the destruction being leveled upon Russia’s smaller neighbor in what Russian President Vladimir Putin calls a special military operation.
“I am categorically against it,” Volozh said Thursday. “I am horrified about the fate of people in Ukraine—many of them my personal friends and relatives—whose houses are being bombed every day.”
He added that although he moved to Israel in 2014, “I have to take my share of responsibility for the country’s actions.”
Yandex runs Russia’s largest search engine and ride-hailing service and is often referred to as Russia’s Google. Company representatives didn’t respond to a request for comment on Volozh’s statement condemning the war.”
