Interesting read. Having had zero experience with any drug use (Baptist preacher’s family) I found your post most educational and very sad. So thankful my parents threatened to almost kill us if we ever drank alcohol, smoked a cig, or used any drug. And we believed our dad might do that.
My Presbyterian parents were the same. No drinking, smoking, or illicit drug use. They set the example so there was no booze or cigarettes in our house.
I never had the temptation to try any of the stuff because we were brought up to take care of our bodies and our brains. “Your body is your temple,” as my mother put it.
As a teen I saw the movie “Lost Weekend” which was about an alcoholic who ran out of booze and had withdrawal symptoms including seeing mice coming out of his walls. He was so desperate for another drink he would do anything. Scared the hell out of me. Show kids that film and “Days of Wine and Roses” and they’ll never take a drink.
