Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“US preparing to announce $6B in weapons contracts for Ukraine”

Multi-year contracts. Some of it may come in months, but others will take years.

At least the pipeline is funded and executing.

[ Ukrainians Unveil & Erase a Top Secret Russian Tank Base ]

Day 792: Apr 25

Today, there are a lot of developments in the Kurakhove direction.

In the last few days, there have been a series of attacks and counterattacks around Krasnohorivka, which have increased in intensity and signaled Russian forces’ high priority to establish control of this town as a preliminary step to launching an attack on Kurakhove.

After the fall of Marinka, Krasnohorivka became the next logical step due to its high tactical value for the Russians.

Taking the town would allow them to push forward into the fields, compromising the supply to the Ukrainian fortress settlements further along the line behind Marinka and providing fire control into the Ukrainian flanks.

This way, the Russians would gain a significant advantage by attacking the Ukrainians also from the flanks.

Russian attacks over Krasnohorivka, which have been ongoing for weeks, are conducted on two main vectors: from the south towards the residential district and from the east, through the farms and field lands.

The Russians faced heavy resistance in both vectors because these areas had already been heavily fortified since the initial conflict in 2014.

As a result, Russian assaults on the city’s southern district, and from the east through the farms, and countryside areas ultimately failed in their first attempt because Russian forces could not consolidate their positions, forcing them to retreat.

However, it took only a short time for Russian forces to regroup and begin preparations for the next assault. These efforts included significant artillery preparation.

Among other objectives, geolocated footage confirmed the destruction of Ukrainian electronic warfare equipment, which was in the process of being deployed.

Shortly after that, the Russians finally launched their next wave, attacking from both the east and south vectors. In this last vector, the mechanized assault was remarkable in size, consisting of about two platoons.

The geolocated footage shows a first advance with six armored vehicles, which got under heavy artillery fire already on the approach. Ukrainians made extensive use of cluster munition, and the mechanized attack was finally repelled with the help of FPV drones.

What happened next has been the subject of worldwide attention: the Russians led the next mechanized wave with a wholly welded metal plates-covered tank intended as protection against FPV drones.

In addition, a strong electronic warfare device was placed at the upper part in order to undermine FPV attacks.

This interesting assembly, nicknamed “turtle tank”, was, in fact, able to advance through the southern district and return to its base without being destroyed.

This event prompted remarks from several Ukrainian military analysts for two reasons.

Firstly, no FPV drone attacks over the turtle tank were reported, so electronic warfare devices on board proved to be effective.

Secondly, the fact that ATGM units did not attack the tank either, and only artillery fire were reported, indicates a worrying material shortage in this front area.

As for the turtle tank, after countless comments on social media, Russian forces finally published a more detailed video where they illustrated the development process of the turtle tank, showing further details.

Unfortunately for the Russians, this footage got geolocated by Ukrainian forces, and shortly after that, the turtle tank base was hit and destroyed by a Ukrainian HIMARS attack.

Up next, it was the turn of the Ukrainians.

Geolocated images show Ukrainian forces’ counterattack in the same areas of the earlier Russian attack, indicating that Ukrainian troops regained their positions following the initial Russian mechanized assault.

The videos show a number of shell and FPV drone attacks over a building in the eastern part of the city.

This building was one of the main Russian positions in the area. In the end, the upper floor of the building started to burn, and some parts even began to collapse.

The Russians found it difficult to accept this setback, and as if the scale of the last attack was not big enough, Russian forces doubled down on their effort and increased the scale of their next offensive to a massive level.

Firstly, Russian forces relaunched the turtle tank concept with new iterations, with the same tactical idea of leading several waves of mechanized attacks.

A Ukrainian officer stated that Russian forces conducted mechanized assaults near Krasnohorivka using dozens of armored vehicles, including BMPs and T-72 tanks.

The Ukrainian officer stated that the Ukrainian troops destroyed only a part of the Russian armored vehicles, thus indicating that at least a part of them were indeed able to deploy infantry inside the city.

Secondly, Russian forces displayed a comprehensive display of devastating means. The Russians went all out with a massive bombardment, employing Tuplip heavy mortar equipment and FAB 1500 glide bombs.

Some military analysts commented on this, indicating FAB glide bombs are playing a crucial role in opening the way to Russian forces. As a culmination of this extensive deployment, up to 6 Russian attack helicopters were reportedly deployed to the attack.

Geolocated footage shows a hail of missiles against various Ukrainian positions. However, the Ukrainian positions in the industrial zone are heavily fortified, and so far, Ukrainians have been able to withstand these intense attacks.

Overall, the situation for the Ukrainians remains complicated, and Russian forces consolidated in Krasnohorivka outskirts. However, they seem to be in a phase of concentration of troops and do not appear to have initiated the main assault.

A tough urban battle has just begun, and the FAB glide bombs are playing an important role in opening the way for the Russians to advance over the city at a higher pace than in previous battles.

Russian forces are trying to increase the pace and take advantage of the narrow window of opportunity in anticipation of the imminent arrival of Western assistance following the recent approval of the aid package by the US Senate after several months of deadlock.

However, Russian advances will slow down as soon as they come close to the industrial zone, which is full of places where Ukrainian soldiers can defend and hold their positions much more easily.

A big war with NATO could start this year. But more likely dates are 2025-2027

This forecast from the SVR, according to our sources in the service, was conveyed to Vladimir Putin.

“Our experts recommended preparing for a serious military clash with the West. It is still possible. We will respond to the Americans, British and others by supplying weapons and other assistance to Kyiv.

“Suddenly their nerves can’t stand it, and they will answer us too. But we consider the likelihood of a war with NATO this year to be low,” one of the interlocutors said.

As for 2025-2027, then, according to him, “the conflict will most likely begin on these dates.”

“A lot depends on how and when we finish the SVO. Here, as you understand, everything is in the fog,” another intelligence source explained.

Putin is promised important victories at the front in the summer

Against the backdrop of the arrest of his deputy Timur Ivanov, Sergei Shoigu promised the President to achieve serious success at the front in the coming months.

The preparation of an offensive by the Russian Armed Forces is not a big secret. What exactly President Shoigu promised is not known for certain. Probably, we will talk about attempts to push the front in the direction of Kharkov and Sumy.

According to our information, the enemy is also preparing for such actions. The success of our army will depend on the amount of resources that will be used.

Sources close to Shoigu are convinced that it is necessary to mobilize at least 200,000 people. “The sooner the better,” said our interlocutor.

The reason for this rush is obvious. “The better prepared the positions, the more forces and means are needed to take them,” explains a high-ranking military man.

The officer admits off the record: the tactics of assault in small groups ensures the advancement of the RF Armed Forces, but this guarantees us serious losses.

“We don’t have enough armor. But it won’t help here. Drones from both sides knock out any equipment up to 3-5 kilometers deep,” our interlocutor said.

At the same time, the General Staff is not convinced that Shoigu’s optimistic promises are realistic. “I don’t know what he promised the President. Maybe to take Kharkov or some other city.

“Now it’s not only difficult, but impossible to do. We need to eat up their defenses little by little, saving people,” said a general close to Valery Gerasimov.

Some already are - mostly because China pays far more than Russia ever could. Some “white monkeys” earn thousands per post.

And you never know but, the CCP may throw in, for the younger ones, early retirement homes for US$2,500 a year - includes nice double room apt, free utilities, cleaning, internet, and 3 buffet meals a day. Many are located in the south with a tropical climate nice beaches and ocean views.

See, crime can pay.

It's been clear all along that this was never going to end in Ukraine. The Baltics are next, after Moldova. If Europe doesn't move quickly to get her industry on a war footing, Putin will take advantage of weakness.

[ Ukrainians Hit Overextended Russian Logistics to Undermine the Offensive ]

Today, there are a lot of developments in the Avdiivka direction.

Here, Russians are attempting to outflank the Ukrainian defenses to the north, while Ukrainians launched countermeasures to undermine the Russian offensive.

On the northern flank of Avdiivka, Russians are simultaneously attempting to advance towards the west and to the north.

The long-term strategic goal of Russians to the North is to advance toward the Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka, linking up with their offensive operation near Chasiv-Yar. The main idea of this operation is to take the Ukrainian forces in New York and Toretsk into a pocket.

If we look at the topographic map, we can see that in attacking Kostyantynivka from the south, the Russians must first take control over several hill ridges, all of which are under Ukrainian control. The east most hills are the first important step for Russians to take, as they allow Ukrainians to make constant flanking attacks on any possible Russian offensive north.

As such, Ukrainians have established multiple strong fortifications on the heights and in multiple settlements around New York. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russians have been unable to break through these Ukrainian defenses.

Therefore, Russians are attempting to bypass these fortifications by outflanking Ukrainians from the West.

But before Russians attempt such a large-scale flanking operation, they must first take control of the Ukrainian settlement of Novokalynove.

Novokalynove is of high tactical and operational value for both the Russians and Ukrainians, as it is situated at the source of the Kalynivka River, linking the two heights together.

As such, it severely threatens the Russian spearhead north by forcing the Russians to allocate forces to defend themselves from possible Ukrainian counterattacks.

During the preparation stages of the Russian spearhead towards Ocheretyne, Russian forces also used artillery and FAB-500 glide bombs to bomb Ukrainian positions in Novokalynove. Ukrainians responded by performing counter-battery operations with artillery and FPV-kamikaze drones.

A video released by the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade shows the destruction of 2 Russian D-30 howitzers. Another video released by the 109th Territorial Defense Brigade shows them engaging and destroying 3 Russian MSTA-S self-propelled guns and a Grad-21 multiple rocket launcher system.

Further, released geolocated footage also shows Ukrainians intercepting one Russian T-90M tank on its way to resupply after an indirect fire mission. This shows the effect of Ukrainian counterbattery operations, as Russians were forced to use their tanks as artillery guns to compensate for their destroyed artillery.

After intense Russian artillery barrages and air strikes, Russian forces launched multiple waves of attacks on the settlement. Ukrainian sources reported that Russians had infiltrated the settlement with groups of 5 to 6 soldiers at a time to delay detection and provide a smaller target for Ukrainian artillery.

Through this, Russians managed to quickly take control of the dairy farm and advance along multiple tree lines around the settlement. Geolocated footage shows that the fighting here was very intense. One video shows Ukrainian cluster munitions hitting Russian assault groups in the forest while simultaneously, Russian FAB glide bombs hit Ukrainian positions further down the line.

To stop the Russian advance, Ukrainian forces quickly performed counterattacks on the Russian assault groups and started destroying them with FPV kamikaze drones. Ukrainian drone operators shared geolocated footage of them engaging Russian assault groups in the dairy farm, as well as occupied houses on the outskirts of the settlement.

Ukrainian soldiers of the 47th Mechanized Brigade also shared footage of counterattacks with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles east of the settlement. The video shows how the Ukrainian Bradley first drives up to the Russian positions in the tree line.

The Bradley then lays down suppressive fire while a Ukrainian assault group dismounts, makes their way into the trenches, and clears out the Russian attackers.

Ukrainian fighters also shared footage of another counterattack south of the settlement. Here, Ukrainians used a tank and a Western armored vehicle to drop off and support another assault on Russian infantry in the tree lines.

Ukrainians realized that Russians would continue to execute these costly pure-infantry attacks on the settlement, no matter the cost. Therefore, Ukrainians decided to focus on disrupting Russian logistics and destroying their reinforcements.

Geolocated footage shows drone operators of the 56th Motorized Brigade destroying Russian forces accumulations with FPV drones, hiding in the trenches, houses, and shelters in and around the settlement.

The 24th Mechanized Brigade released footage of them destroying a cluster of Russian transport vehicles with a single FPV drone. These fighters also showed a video of them destroying multiple Russian transport trucks with drone-dropped grenades.

Geolocated footage released by the 109th Territorial Defense Brigade also shows FPV kamikaze drones engaging multiple Russian transport trucks filled with infantry.

Ukrainian operators also identified and destroyed a Russian command post with HIMARS, killing the local brigade commander along with a significant number of other service members.

The facility served as a temporary stop, from where units would be deployed and distributed across the front line; as such, it would be filled with infantry ready to be deployed to the frontline.

The Institute for the Study of War even reported that Ukrainian forces were using their own glide bombs to strike Russian reinforcements near Krasnohorivka on their way to Ocheretyne.

Overall, Russians have severely sped up their offensive efforts in the face of the quickly closing window of opportunity to take advantage of Ukraine’s resource shortages. However, as stated by the United States Department of Defense, the first aid for Ukraine should be delivered as early as next week.

Fresh supplies of artillery shells should allow Ukrainians to prevent further advancement of Russians forces, while fresh armored vehicles should give Ukrainians a chance to conduct counterattacks on the Russian flanks.

As seen in the released footage, the effective utilization of strikes on Russian logistics substantially helped mitigate the problem and buy more time for the arrival of the approved aid.

And so drones to the airfield in the Krasnodar region. Four aircraft damaged

According to our sources in the Aerospace Forces and the General Staff, at the airfield near the village of Kushchevskaya, enemy drones damaged four aircraft - Su-27 and Su-34. One plane is lost, one is in doubt, two will most likely be repaired.

Also lost was a “certain amount” of ammunition used in the air defense zone.

There were no deaths, four people were injured.

Sources admit that the airfield was not sufficiently protected by air defense systems. Some of the aircraft on it have recently been “hidden” from the enemy, and they did not have time to transfer additional air defense systems and electronic warfare systems.
