Carl Reiner was third or fourth banana on a landmark fifties TV show starring a genuine comedic genius named Sid Caesar. He was even lower on the banana vine in that show’s writers’ room, alongside the likes of Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, and Woody Allen. Was responsible for another genius led show with Dick Van Dyke, and was smart enough to his political opinions to himself. Thus avoiding embarrassment and the loss of half his audience. But his son, born on third base believing he hit a triple, has been a loud mouthed boor his entire life.
