I had heard about him, but never really listened, until around 1990 or so.

Since then he has been like a comfortable old shoe.

This is patently false. The Stern Effect directly fueled Limbaugh's audience. The average Stern hater listened for two and a half hours a day. The average Stern fan listened for slightly more than half that.

Limbaugh's internal audience breakdowns were identical.

I miss Limbaugh, and I have stated that with more elan than this scribe ever dreamed of...this is a dumb stream-of-unconsciousness piece that the author would be well advised not to even attempt to defend here.
