More to the point, it's amazing that anyone thought Hillary Clinton was actually good at politics. Her entire oeuvre is as an incessant scold. Whether it's as explicit as "basket of deplorables" or not, Clinton stands for the elites and demands fealty from the serfs on the basis of privilege at all times. Her sense of entitlement is as breathtaking as it is unearned.

You’re thinking of 1992. Bill Clinton won 49.2% of the popular vote in 1996. Fairly often, presidents win the election with less than 50% of the popular vote. Donald Trump had 46.1% in 2016.
