That was an angle I hadn't thought of before. Politically it is significant and a real concern for congressional Republicans.

Domestically, congressional Republicans have to worry about what the public will think of them if Ukraine falls. Internationally, they do not want to get blamed for emboldening future Russian aggression.

Assuming Trump wins (Democrats fail to steal the Presidency again), the better Ukraine's position, the better Trump's negotiating position with both sides.

ATTENTION WIDGIE!: “Polls have shown that support for Ukraine is slipping among the broader electorate, particularly Republicans. A November Gallup poll shows that 62% of Republican voters now believe the US is doing too much to help Ukraine. In June, the figure stood at 50%.”
