A 16-year-old student at Central Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina, faced a three-day suspension last week, the Carolina Journal reported.
The cause? His use of the term ‘illegal alien’ during a vocabulary assignment in English class.
The Carolina Journal has omitted the teenager’s name due to his minor status and in order to safeguard his privacy. Similarly, The Gateway Pundit has also chosen not to disclose the student’s identity.
Leah McGhee, the mother of the student, reported that the vocabulary exercise included the word ‘alien’. Trying to clarify, her son inquired, “Like space aliens or illegal aliens without green cards?”
This question led to a confrontation with another student, escalating to the point where the teacher summoned the assistant principal.
The administrative staff subsequently determined the term used by McGhee’s son as ‘offensive and disrespectful’ towards Hispanic classmates, leading to his suspension.
In his defense, the student stated, “I didn’t make a statement directed towards anyone; I asked a question. I wasn’t speaking of Hispanics because everyone from other countries needs green cards, and the term ‘illegal alien’ is an actual term that I hear on the news and can find in the dictionary.”

If this is a public school then this action is an unconstitutional regulation of free speech. Go to court and force the school publicly apologize and pledge that no further actions of this kind will take place.
Would a student be suspended for calling another student cis gender?
I would sue. Illegal alien is an accurate term. It therefore cannot be offensive or discriminatory. Just because some teacher says it is “offensive” doesn’t make it so. Dang right I would sue the school.

I’ve seen the change in 20+ years in our town’s public schools. The fat, lazy and woke union karens seem to have taken over control of the school and have created an atmosphere of bureaucratic dysfunction and empty sloganeering
Over the years we have seen articles revealing that there are elements of the left saving these type of little things and bold social media postings on individua teens and the young, that they think could be useful against them if in adulthood they reach a level that needs approval, such as a judgeship, as a politician or in management somewhere or any other type of leadership or role of public influence.
Isn’t the term actually used in U.S. law and regulations?
Totally agree with bk1000. Nothing wrong with using correct English to describe someone who is gained entrance into a country in an illegal manner, and whose status is ALIEN and not CITIZEN. SUE them to they scream.
Also seek civil damages for abusing the 1st and 14th amendment rights of student.
Start a petition to remove the principal, assistant principal, teacher, and any school board members who supported them in this racist travesty.
Those responsible should be on trial for war crimes.
The filthy bastards on the left have found a way to harass and torture Whitey and to make his life miserable. They have a long list of words that they don’t publish. Any Whitey who uses one word on the list is shot down, silenced, shredded and canceled. The list is constantly changing, so Whitey can’t ever know when he is going to be shot down.
