“I really enjoyed this series, originally on Amazon.”

one of the very few things amazon produced that was actually excellent ... almost everything amazon has produced during the last five years has been utter dreck that was written, directed, acted, and produced by talentless woke hacks ...

But his early stuff is just incredible. Trunk Music may be the best detective novel ever.

Over a couple of years, I went through every hard boiled detective novel I could get in a similar manner. An early dinner on Friday evening, a nap, then up all night reading.

If you like Bosch, you might also like Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer detective novels, as well as Raymond Chandler's earlier Philip Marlowe series. Chandler's Marlowe was especially influential as one of the first and best hard boiled detectives, with the Rockford Files modeled on Marlowe by series co-creator Roy Huggins.

Chandler also inspired Connelly, who was a struggling business student at University of Florida in 1973 when he went to see The Long Goodbye, which was based on a novel by Raymond Chandler. Inspired to become a mystery writer, Connelly read Chandler's Philip Marlowe books and stories over a college break and then transferred to journalism and creative writing.

After graduation and newspaper reporting jobs in Florida, Connelly moved to L.A. to cover crime for the Los Angeles Times. Connelly's Bosch novels are based in many ways on those of Chandler.

But Connelly is well versed on the ins and outs of the legal issues that detail the modern facts of modern police procedure. He not only writes great stories but gives you a police procedural in the process. Killer.

To this day, I see so many ending sentences with prepositions...

As Winston Churchill said, "That is something up with which I will not put."

Connelly’s career as a crime reporter serves him well. I have known enough cops over the years to have a sense of cop world and cop think: canny, suspicious, always on guard, obedient to superiors and public authority but not fully trusting them to do what is right. Connelly is on the mark.

I agree about his early stuff. Now he’s phoning it in and running on fumes.

The early Bosch shows were interesting and great story telling. Bosch Legacy just is not that good in my opinion and I tried to watch the latest episodes a few months ago. I like most of the characters and I do love Mimi Rogers as Honey Chandler.

Maybe I will give it another try.

So these are audio books on YouTube, I can assure you that Royalties are being paid for their use. Are there ads in these shows, I bet there are unless you have Youtube Premium with no ads.

I’ve never seen the tv shows. I’ve only read almost every one of his books.

Same here, or at least it was true until a decade ago. I haven't kept up with his latest novels.

In Connelly's latest novel, Harry Bosch assists Micky Haller...Bosch is retired from LAPD...He is dealing with cancer...HIs daughter Maddie is with LAPD...Ballard is still with LAPD as well...

Connelly introduced Ballard as a female version of Harry Bosch in the past...

The “Legacy” Bosch series stinks, IMO. All those chicks. It’s just not believable (to us). Loved loved loved the first Bosche series.

As someone who has tried his hand at writing mystery fiction in novel and short story formats, I am constantly amazed by Connelly’s skill. Every novel is really two novels in one as he weaves two story lines together.

You get to the end of one plot and think you have finished the book but then you realize you still have many pages to go on the second plot. Check it out.
