Back in my Army days, mission time was sacrosanct. If it was 1400, then it meant 1400. 1401 was a failure.

I remember a tac evaluation where a butterbar missed his morning mission time by 30 minutes. The CO didn’t say anything, which really angered me further. I lit into that Platoon Leader like he had never been spoken to. As the XO, that was my job, to hold him accountable.

It got worse that afternoon, when he and the CO made head scratching displays of incompetence. My First Sergeant, a soldier with 3 tours in Vietnam, was sitting on a tree stump, muttering “it’s over.” At our evening meeting, I lit into everyone (except the CO) for failing to exert the leadership required of them…loudly.

Leaving our CP, I saw the Chief Evaluator. While I was thinking “oh crap”, he smiled and said, “LT, that was beautiful!”

That’s how I feel about college leadership at the moment.

We barely passed, for which I received a career ending evaluation. I hung around a few more years, if only to command a battery. I left active duty moments after the change of command, where I was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal.

Apologies for the length of this post.

Exactly, otherwise don't even bother setting a "time".

Dwight Eisenhower would never had put up with what’s happening at Columbia University.
