It's just a hunch, I have no evidence. I have no inside information, accept what I intuit from what I see.
The Pubs made a bad move with the Federal Legislation; GWB realized that too late.
He could not storm the hospice for 2 reasons: (1) The media would have eaten him alive as a police state Hitler; (2) there are police offers guarding the hospice who have a duty also, and there could have been bloodshed. The worst of all worlds.
The same applied to Jeb Bush-
I believe that GWB, Jeb and all the pubs backed off because, if they didn't, the media would have roasted them- and public support wasn't behind them. Pres was at 43% approval.
So, the most underestimated politician in history, started working back channels through Lieberman and Jackson. I think GWB persuaded Jesse to go to Flordia.
I think they now have the votes to pass Fla. Legislation, it's just a matter of getting the wording right- so to appease the miserable Fla. Supreme Court.
The DEMS will get the credit for saving Terri, the Bushs will be seen as weakened. BUT GWB will have saved Terri's life.
Hopefully, Terri can hang on. But, in my heart, I think we do our greatest President an injustice and disservice when we say he gave up on Terri- He's sacrficed to take a political beating, to save Terri's life.
Underestimated again!
NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!
So the FL legislature passes some silly legislation. Then some third rate county probate court judge and dog-catcher (Greer) declares it unconstitutional and they wrangle until the whole thing is moot. Sorry, I think we've had enough legislation and judicial review. It's time for the Executive branch to do them some executin'
Kings,
As much as I admire your devotion, I don't see G.W.Bush doing anything anymore, nor have I heard him say anything about Terri since last week's trilateral summit (though I could be wrong). Perhaps G.W.Bush and, more importantly, Jeb Bush see themselves as not being able to legally do anymore. Personally I disagree with that view. Very strongly in fact. Terri is not a political issue. Terri is not an approval ratings issue. Terri is first and foremost a human being who is being killed by government order in plain view of her loving family. And that's what makes it so unjust.
I wonder why, after all Jeb Bush has done over the last couple years, he seems so quick to throw in the towel and wash his hands of it all. That's not a judgment, just an observation and an opinion.
In the end, I just want what most other decent people want: For Terri to live. Everything else, including G.W.Bush's political legacy (as much as I like him), is inconsequential to me.
Regards,
Norman
One thing is for sure. Jeb Bush will never be president.
Earlier someone posted that Jeb was not running again. So? What did he have to lose? Unless he has his eye on the presidency someday.
No real man would allow this woman to be murdered. It's time like this when people show what they are really made of. From what I have seen of Jeb Bush he's not someone I'd follow anywhere.
When Americans dumped tea into the Boston harbor it was illegal. When the founders met and then declared that American was independent THAT was against British law. When Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus it was against the law. Etc, etc.
Humanity and decency and doing the right thing is more important than some laws.
How do I post a picture of Terri on my about me page? Since I see you have pictures on your page I figured you could help me.
Nope.
The cops are aware the Terri is being murdered, and they are actively preventing anyone from taking a glass of water into the hospice. They are, in other words, assisting in a murder. They are accomplices to the murder of Terri Schiavo.
There are no separate rules of morality for government employees and non-government employees. To assist in making sure that a murder succeeds is criminal behavior, whether one receives a government paycheck or not.
I am horrified that even well-meaning, kindly people like you can be so woolly-headed when it comes to seeing the precise moral character of the actions that are taking place right before your eyes.
It is very telling that you attribute my words to "anger." My words are all objective, accurate descriptions of the crimes that are being committed, by the governor, by the cops, and by others. It is typical of our age that you reflexively attribute expressions of moral outrage to "anger" or some other emotion. Our age does not concede that moral language has any objective referent. Our age holds that moral language is only an expression of feelings. I urge you to free yourself from the evil age you live in. As you said, We all swim in the same polluted water. Free yourself from the intellectual pollution, at least.
I'm not good at explaining it but if you search "html bootcamp" you'll come up with dozens of threads about posting pictures etc.
You're going to need an upload site as well. I suggest Imageshack, it's free.
Wrong. You lose. You get a set of Spoolies for a consolation prize.
No one is required by law to BE a cop. Any cop who assists in the murder of Terri Schiavo is saying that his next paycheck is of greater value than Terri's life. What's funny is that you describe the cops in the precise terms that DEFINE a "Nazi"--blindly obeying orders--and then say it's inappropriate to call them Nazis.
Norm,
Now you're cooking with gas. :)
God Bless
Never give up! Never give up! Never! Never! Never! Churchill
Sorry, as much as I respect the pres. for walking the walk against Saddam, he gambled on the success of the American military and that is bet that he is most likely to win. American presidents who successfully wage war usually do quite well at the polls.
he stormed the hospice, he would be feeding into every stereotype the world has portrayed him as. How, does that effect his Presidency, and in turn, are major interests in the world?
And THAT would have taken courage. He displayed little, as did Jeb Bush. Clinton went into little Havana in Miami with a fully armed tactical unit. He stuck a gun in a baby's face. I hated Clinton for it, but it displayed more guts than Pres. Bush did here. Furthermore, I am not alone among conservatives in my criticism of the president here.
If the the pubs lose the '06 election it will be because they did not take on the judiciary and effect real change. How can he impose his will on the judiciary if he will not take a stand? It is d*mned frustrating.
I fully expect him to let this woman die- hoping she will die quickly so the country's collective memory will forget and move on to another issue. Matter of fact, I bet most of the republicans in the senate are praying for exactly the same thing.
What the &%7$ are Spoolies?
I agree with you 100%. Our judges have become the American Black Robed Taliban.
This is the kind of treatment of a woman that would be expected to occur under Taliban rule or by Saddam. It should not happen here in America.
Reagan was such a brave man. I miss those days.
I am not a weak man--but I will freely admit that I have wept over this. And prayed a lot.
Hey--if you geta chance--see the DVD--"In the Face of Evil" it is about how Reagan fought the war against communism--it is a must see for everyone.
Seems like a lot of work for just a couple of pics of dear Terri.
Dopey. More evidence that people with shoe-sized IQs can actually string words into a sentence, no matter how ridiculous the sentence.
