Let me repeat for the slow on the uptake. THere are not enough livable housing units in the city right now for people to return to.

Try reading my post about having to either go to a shelter in the area till something opens up, or leaving the area.

I know YOU have a magic solution, so please share it with us all. I'm dying to hear YOUR great ideas other than finding someone to live with, finding a shelter, going to renter's court, or finding an apartment nearby. Please, let us all hear YOUR magic solution.

Stop the whining and contribute, or buzz off.

Does anyone know if my documentation from the PO would be a legal defense to the eviction before a reasonable judge?

Think the landlord has little children to feed?

No, He is actually very wealthy and elderly. I don't think a few days would hurt him at all.

The post office has no idea about what has been delivered and what has not been delivered, unless its Cetified Mail. If it was Certified Mail, then you have legal recourse.

I remember the radar showing Katrina in the Gulf and you couldn't see the Gulf. Katrina had Cat 5 winds over a HUGE area. It was a monster. Couple that with the pegged moron meter, add a whole lot of entitlement minded, unarmed sheep, and this is where we are today.

Personal note, I keep a gun w/ ammo in both of my cars and two in the house now. "Refuse to be a victim" comes to mind.

Ah, your choice then whether to "screw the man" or not.

The courts and IRS only accept Certified Mail as being timely mailed.

Trolling for sympathy? I think you're using an artificial lure.

It was express mail, supposedly their premium service and it did have a tracking number. Even today it still says it is enroute from Baton Rouge since the 16th of January.

Katrina nd NOLA woke me up too. My wife and I both now have our CCW permits and sufficient weaponry to protect ourselves if needed.

Oh yeah, forgot about our "his and hers" CCW permits. In our state, you don't need them to keep 'em in your car, but lots of training never hurt anyone.

Sorry you have gotten so many unhelpful comments. The fact that a lot of the FEMA hotel people are loosing their subsidies is only going to make the housing market tighter. Did you see my suggestions on post #35?

Another idea would be to drive to an area where people are staying in their homes and cleaning up. An area where people can relate to the kind of person you are. If you could help out when you are not a work they might like an extra pair of hands and some money. If the crime situation is bad, they might like a warning dog on the premises.

Your money is no good apparently, that which the Feds let you have.

Move to where it is good.

That's advice, a third time. You asked.

Why wouldn't the landlord want his money?

I would imagine housing is at a premium. If there is already a problem in collecting her first month's rent, though it seems to be a problem that was out of her control, the landlord can evict her and have a new tenent in there in a couple of days. Just considering what's going on down there, I'd bet a lot of landlords are getting ripped off. Not saying that's the case with this lady. Just sounds like a string of bad luck. I feel bad for her.

It used to take 3 months to get you evicted in New Orleans. Has that changed?
