“What powers the sun is still assumed to be nuclear fusion ... “ A fusion powered sun does not explain how you get from a 6000º surface to a multimillion degree upper atmosphere by “convection”.

All the scopes see is increased temperature on surface, which means released energy. A telescope see’s released energy (photons). A radio scope sees released energy (electromagnetic waves). When you look at the sun you are see’ing released energy, not the energy itself.

LATENT HEAT:
“The specific latent heat of fusion is the quantity of heat energy released when 1 kg of a substance solidifies (i.e. fuses) without changing its temperature. (liquid to solid)
The specific latent heat of vaporization is the quantity of heat energy needed to vaporize 1 kg of a substance without changing its temperature.” (liquid to gas)
I would imagine that the hydrogen plasma on the surface of the sun would release energy similar to Latent Heat of liquid to gas, or solid to liquid. I don’t know much about plasma. Its the fourth state of matter.
OH! I just thought of a good one. STEAM from a pot of boiling water, both at exactly the same temperature, releases energy faster then the boiling water itself (scalds you more).
EH EH EH EH!
?
Sorry, but the fusion we're talking about is the fusion seen when two hydrogen atoms fuse into one Helium atom. The energy released is expressed in the formula E=MC2 that Einstein discovered.
If you were to apply that to 1Kg of any material with 100% efficiency the boom would be, shall we say, very big. There would be nothing even resembling a gas anywhere in the vicinity... Plasma, yes. Gas, no. Think Bikini Atoll around 1953. And that wasn't 100% efficient!
