Zuben has had difficulty losing that extra 15 pounds, even after exercise and portion control. Anyone ever try the NutriSystem? And if so, what were your results?
Have not tried it. However, every once in awhile the food pantry at my church has some of their food items. Not at all impressed with the quality of the selections. IMHO, look at other programs and do some comparison as to price and quality. Weight Watchers seems to have the best success as you don’t have to purchase some weight management program foods. IMHO, South Beach has the best selections, even though it’s the most expensive.
I hear that if you like tiny portions of FROZEN food (even hamburgers and pizza), then you can loose weight, but why not just go with fuller portions of fresh veggies and fruit and good lean meat, leave off the pasta and bread and chocolate cake... and still loose weight?
The things that many do not ralize about Nutrisystem are:
1. You need to supplement the food you purchase from Nutrisystem with other food items, especially salads, dairy products (low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt), vegetables and fruits. So $300 will not cover the cost of ALL of your meals in a month.
2. Like most diets (or weight loss plans), you should also exercise (the more, the better).
3. This is not rocket science. It is a sensible lower calorie, lower carb, smaller portion size approach to reducing your daily caloric intake.
That all said, I like the food (and I am doing the more restrictive diabetic version for men because I am trying to watch and reduce my sugar intake). There is a nice variety of meals. And, except for late at night, I am never hungry. In fact, it is hard to eat all that you are supposed to eat at times (to take advantage of the glycemic advantage by having the right "fuel" to burn calories).
I commend you on your plans to eat healthier and lose weight. If you follow their plan, you cannot lose (other than weight!) with Nutrisystem.
I am not affiliated with Nutrisystem -- which I call the Larry the Cable Guy Diet -- in any way.
BTW, their food is NOT frozen. It is sealed in special packaging that does not require refrigeration. I eat many of their lunch-sized pastas without even microwaving them. Yum!
An ex-girlfriend of mine tried it (20 years ago), and she lost the weight. She broke up with me not too long after, so I can’t comment on if she kept it off.
She was very committed to the program however, including the exercise. So, if this program is tried, it takes serious commitment.
A few years ago, I tried Atkins. I also exercised (mostly fast walking) during that time, and I lost the weight.
BUT I STAYED in the induction phase. I never allowed myself to increase carb intake. I lost about 30 lbs, and two pants sizes (overhanging a 34 to 31-32 inch waist), in around six weeks.
Since then, the only thing I have kept up is drinking diet drinks. I pretty much eat what I want, keeping the portions reasonable. My weight has fluctuated, but I have kept most of it off.
Sidenote. I used to suffer what I could only call irritable bowel syndrome (never formerly diagnosed), but once I started Atkins, my symptoms subsided and stayed away even after going off Atkins. Don’t know if they’re related, but I wasn’t expecting that side effect.
The reality is if you eat to many calories you're going to gain weight, but losing weight is not the answer. Losing body fat is.
Find out how many calories you need to eat to bring yourself to a desired weight. Eat a Protein, Starchy Carb, and Fiberous Carb everytime you eat. You should lose body fat and weight together. Exercise for 5-10 minutes everyday, calisthenics is fine.
No, but Nutria's good eatin.'
It worked for me and was approved by two of my doctors....both on the staff of a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital.
It takes time....and will....but it **does** work.
I know that that's not an answer to your specific question,but......
Do phase 1 of south beach for 2 weeks. Lean meat, no starches, a bit of fat (walnuts, laughing cow, etc) The neighbors and we did it to test out how we did. It works.
No, but several friends have tried Weight Watchers and they have really lost the weight.
Thank you tob2, I shall investigate SB too.
I try, I try, I try and still cannot lose this last 10-15 lbs. Nice homepage, btw; I don't see your name on many postings so we've never crossed in the night. Nice to make your acquaintance.
Thank you very much PackBoy for your feedback and words of encouragement (and your disclaimer).
I am currently on Nutrisystem and it is the greatest thing I could imagine. Lost 13 pounds in first month and I am NEVER hungry! The food is pretty good and I will probably continue eating the food for breakfast and lunch as maintenance once I acheive my goal of 25 pounds.
I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to lose weight in a healthy way. It is around $300 for 28 days plus an extra week with autoship. Most of us spend more than $10 on food anyway.
Good luck!!
That's pretty much where I am but I want to lose 10-15 more lbs. Thanks for your response.
OK, will investigate that too. WW has meetings, no? How many men attend (I'm male)?
OK thanks. I do eat a pretty well-rounded diet right now and exercise 20-30 minutes per day on an elipse.
