Not the End of the World
Chizumatic.mee.nu ^ | Nov. 4, 2008 | Steven Den Beste

The President of the United States is the most powerful political figure in the world, but as national executives go his powers are actually quite restricted. Obama will become President, but he won't be dictator or king, let alone deity. He still has to work with the House and the Senate, and he still has to live within Constitutional restrictions, and with a judiciary that he mostly didn't appoint.

The main reason this will be a "coming of age" moment is that now Obama and the Democrats have to put up or shut up. Obama got elected by making himself a blank slate, with vapid promises about "hope" and "change" -- but now he actually has to do something. Now he has to reveal his true agenda. And with the Democrats also having a majority in both chambers of Congress, now the Democrats really have to lead. And they're not going to do a very good job of it. It's going to be amusing to watch.

And the people who fell for the demagoguery will learn an invaluable lesson.

I believe Obama will be far more inept and disorganized than Clinton was, and believe me I know that’s a pretty high standard to meet.

The infighting between the factions which supported him will be epic. The bus will rise until the rear wheels spin in midair.

Wrong on every count. The House and Senate will do his bidding or they will be dealt with. Pelosi and Reid will be faithful minions or they will be replaced.

The one has already referred to our Constitution and a charter of negative rights and called it outdated and unsuited to deal with our needs today. The Judiciary can rule any way it likes. Can it enforce it's rulings? Obama has promised a civilian paramilitary force as well trained and as well funded as the military. Picture Black Panthers in Uniform...think they won't be able to handle a couple of renegade judges?

Too bad I have to wait until January to have my mortgage paid for. Oh, and as I live in a rural area, I want my free broadband Internet as well.

I can't wait until the rich people get soaked as well.

Maybe so, but he does not have the laws of physics and human nature in his control.

The role of entropy in human affairs is not subject to the utopian dreams of pseudo-intellectuals like Obama and his hippy radical amen choir.

Not a bad read, but this is pure nonsense

5. There will eventually be a press backlash against Obama which will make their treatment of Bush look mild.

No, but I believe I can see it on the horizon from here.

Well, at least till he implements a strategy of "do what I want or I'll foment riots..."

Yes, that is silly. The delusion across the nation (and the world) is strong...

“and he still has to live within Constitutional restrictions”

Well if he has to do that then he won’t ever be president of the USA. He was born in Kenya. He is not a natural citizen of the USA.

So did Clinton for his first two years, and he didn’t manage to get any serious parts of his agenda through. Couldn’t even get socialized medicine out of committee.

"has to live within Constitutional restrictions"

LOL, yea right. Say good-bye to (what is left of) the Constitution being the law of the land. We just elected a Marxist and he will rule like a Marxist, the Constitution be damned.

The left in total control of everything can do anything that they want on all of the issues, and they don’t care if it’s illegal or unconstitutional! When the majority of voters in the U.S. end up saying, “Up yours!” to both the entire U.S. Constitution and the entire Bill of Rights, then it really is all over! Conservatives can spend the rest of their lives believing that this is only a temporary setback that will correct itself in two years, in four years, in six years, in eight years...,but they are not really seeing things exactly like how leftists see things! Leftists will change things so that they have political power forever, because that’s what the left does at each and every turn when given the opportunity to do so! Most conservatives will continue to fight the fight, but they will just as equally not realize that it’s forever over for them. Conservatives play by the rules, while leftists don’t!

Thanks for a breath of sanity. I’m looking at this administration as Son of Carter. We survived him, we’ll survive this guy. Will it be painful? Probably. Will we learn from it? Too early to tell.

I actually think that the Pelosi-Reid tandem is going to try to call the shots with Obama on several key issues. They will certainly try to bend him to their ‘priorities’. “Gee Barry, we don’t think you should lead with that legislation. Why don’t you try this first?”
