Exactly.
Our Founders were terrified of the thought of democracy, which is why they set up a Republic instead. Voting in federal elections was limited only to property owning males. Presidents were elected by the Electoral College. Senators were elected by the state legislatures.
Given the benefit of hindsight, I now see the wisdom of the Founders and the system they created!
