You are more knowledgeable about Southern history than most people today.
Many think Southerners are all backward and uneducated. TV and the movies have spent generation trying to instill that.
I hate the Left. It was a real education for me when I moved to NM in 1972. This West Texas farm boy got his first view of a Mine Union Town, and the Lefties that inhabited the local University and the local Unions. It made a lasting impression.
That was my first view of Liberation Theology, and real Commies.

Southerners are always underestimated.
The element of surprise then lies in the Southerner’s favor because the other person never sees it coming.
