Kinda the same sound as a sonic boom maybe, but it seemed longer. Also much louder, as it shook all the windows like an earthquake, but no fan chains swaying to indicate one.

Late 70s in the San Diego area, we heard the booms, loud enough where people ran from their homes looking up...I recall once, all the neighbors ran out front, and I met a Naval aviator who said he never heard any aircraft sonic boom that loud.
