At the root of all this activity is probably a complex of sunspots. The region is not yet visible from Earth, but the sun is turning it toward us for a better view. Readers with solar telescopes should keep an eye on sun's northeastern limb for an emergence on May 7th or 8th.
We shall see.

Where do you live with this Peony? My grandmother who lived in Montgomery, Alabama, would put the ice from defrosting her refrigerator on the peony in the winter time to make it bloom every year.
My grandfather would grow a night blooming Cereus each year.

The globalist warmers are peeing their panties from excitement. I hope it is just a hiccup. Nothing will prove the warming demagogues wrong faster than an extended solar minimum.

The local congregation of Global Warmists is having a prayer meeting to thank Gaya for the eruption. Then they will have a sermon Saturday to deny the sun's influence on temperatures.

Sunspot or not, the Sun remains in a minimum for now, since the last spot before this was the previous cycle. Once there are several new-cycle sunspot groups (each with individual spots) present at the same time, I’d say we’re definitely on our way towards maximum. That is, of course, unless we’re headed into uncharted territory (for modern astronomy) with another Maunder Minimum type event.
Another interesting data point is that lately sunspots have been dying out after a day or two. So, even if this was a sunspot on the other side, it may never appear on this side, or be included in the “official” count.
