As a bonus, if you haven't heard about the Sarychev Peak eruption, you should check the news. Ash from the volcano is disrupting air travel to the Far East -- according to the Eruptions blog a flight from Newark to Tokyo was diverted back to Newark, and had a total of 12 hours flight time!

Can’t figure a valid reason for perfect circular “hole” in the rising air (and humidity) around the volcano: Seems that it would be the opposite: more clouds right near it.

I sailed through the Sunda Strait and past Anak Krakatau in 1992 or ‘93 while enroute from Singapore to Perth but it was quiet at the time, just some steam. Still cool to see.
