I’m a bit confused too. The canal crosses the lake, no? The city of Ismailia must be fifty miles south, sort of a terminus of the east-west wadi; dunno about the “governate,” though it probably extends north and possibly to the lake.
Never heard of Tel Defna.

“Tel Defna” is what they called the phone before there was someone there to hear...

I need pictures, diagrams and sketches. I cant get my barings. Me too, I finally went to Google Earth -- a bread basket/Nile Delta spot, not out in the sand dunes anyhow.
It was found in Tel Defna between Al-Manzala Lake and the Suez Canal.

Heh! well good luck finding it on a map. Not too long ago I tried to pinpoint Pelusium, which was a fairly important city in ancient times. Even Google earth didn’t have it, or its nearest neighbor ‘tel’ either.
It would be nice if they’d provide maps when they provide news.

Are you sure you’re not thinking of Zahi “Zowie” Hawass? :’)

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Of the two Hawass is the more obnoxious.

Yes, I know it’s on wiki, and several other sites mention it. Few enough that I’ve read them all. However, nobody can really pinpoint it, or agree on exactly where it lay, and you don’t see it on Google earth. Being there are archaeological finds, you’d think there’d be a consensus on its location.
Plus we’ve got some great maps here at 668, and they don’t show Tel Defna, I just checked. Makes you wonder if some of these tells are like the peas in a shell game; sometimes here, sometimes there, sometimes not there.
Grrr. :(
To: SunkenCiv
Sounds like this is virtually the last of the native Egyptian dynasties, before the conquests by Assyria, Persia, Alexandrian and Ptolemaic invader/occupiers.
