Because there is nothing tidal about a wave generated by a large water displacement. Tidal bores such as the waves on the Amazon and Severn rivers are actual waves caused by the tide coming up a river this could be considered a tidal wave which is much different than a tsunami.

Exactly! Because we now know that the term tidal wave does not accurately describe the event. So the hate America crowd decided to not use our term but use the Japanese term. Unfortunately the term tsunami means harbor wave, which is even more inaccurate than tidal wave. I am just pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of our ‘scientific’ community.
