My husband and I visited Vindolanda about 15 years ago. It was pretty neat then. I suppose they have discovered a lot more since we were there. From the fort we walked about a mile along a country road lined by a stone wall and then across a sheep pasture to get to Hadrian's wall.

While many believe that Christianity borrowed from Mithraism, there is the counter argument that the cult may of been borrowing from early Christians. Many of the parallels are found only in later Roman versions of Mithraism which might of been influenced by that popular new Jewish cult.

interesting what they are finding as they continue to excavate vindolanda. I visited it about 10 yrs ago, and 75% of the newer fort was (as far as I could tell) undug.
