At the top of the article:
NASA’s David Hathaway has adjusted his expectations of Solar Cycle 24 downwards. He is quoted in the New York Times here Specifically, he said:
” Still, something like the Dalton Minimum — two solar cycles in the early 1800s that peaked at about an average of 50 sunspots — lies in the realm of the possible.”

At the bottom of the article:
Dr Hathaway says that we are not in for a Maunder Minimum, and I agree with him.

Huh???

The entire “global warming” craze is an exercise in what seems to be massive amounts of zero critical thinking at all.

What happens if it warms up?

A few coastal cities flood.
It rains more, because warmer temps means more evaporation, and it’s gotta come down somewhere...
The farther northern areas of potential cropland open up for agriculture...

What happens if it cools?

the coastal cities that were ports find themselves a distance from the sea
Energy production plummets - Alaska, North sea crude..
MILLIONS - perhaps TENS OF MILLIONS of acres of current productive cropland turn to permafrost
HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS - perhaps BILLIONS of people starve and/or freeze to death

Maybe I’m missing something here...

You mean this is a bad thing: http://www.spaceweather.com/ ?

Still remember when I showed that site to some libtards a while ago. Their respons? It was fake because NASA is owned by the oil companies. That’s when I called them morons and left.

Means colder weather, the growing zones shifting south by about one zone, and crops losses in about a 30% range in the next decade... from what I read about it before...

So we have at least the possibility now that the current and next solar cycles will experience very low sunspot activity levels. This fact alone should halt Cap and Trade legislation in its tracks, yet it continues onward.

Maybe we are in for something worse than a Dalton Minimum. Livingston and Penn paper: “Sunspots may vanish by 2015″. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/06/02/livingston-and-penn-paper-sunspots-may-vanish-by-2015/

A few months ago, I wrote several scathing posts about the Dr.Hathaway and his ridiculously holding on to maintaining that SC24 was going to have a raging maximum in the face of all the evidence and his constantly pushing his curves back later and later. Solar dynamics physicists have been suggesting for a decade that SC24 would likely be weak, so it isn’t like he should have been so cock sure. FINALLY he is admitting that he has been wrong in doing so. I have to give him a bit of credit for belatedly eating crow, I guess. I just wish that he hadn’t been so adamant about persuading others of the dubious merits of his position.
