Now you can get large CME's Coronal Mass Ejections during weak solar activity levels, but they are rare. NASA has two satellites in orbit that watch the CME's in stereo vision 3D. Chances our they would have seen a large CME, unless it was ejected outward from the back of the sun. Would be interesting to see how earth, Venus, Jupiter and the Earth are aligned right now.
