BP = Before Present

It’s shorthand for saying 30 to 40,000 years ago. Nothing nefarious about it that I know of.

It refers to “before present”; in radiocarbon dating ‘present’ is 1950, the year used as the baseline because that’s when RC dating was pioneered.

If BP were anti-Christian, it would stand for “Before Pilate” or maybe “Before Paul”. But A) it isn’t anti-Christian, B) SunkenCiv isn’t anti-Christian, and C) nothing about this topic is anti-Christian.

Back in the Soviet days, Russian texts used to write до нашей эры / до н.э. (do nashey ehry, "before our era") for BC, I guess because of socialism (the anti-religion religion).

You'd think with the collapse of the Soviet Union that this atrocity would disappear, but I guess not.
