First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will attend Game 1 of the 105th World Series on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium in support of Welcome Back Veterans, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday amid preparations for the big opener.

It will be the first of four consecutive games prefaced by overall themes pertaining to MLB's Going Beyond campaign for community service and charitable involvement -- an unprecedented approach to the Fall Classic. Game 2 will focus on Volunteerism and Community Service (including the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy), Game 3 will focus on Stand Up To Cancer and Game 4 will focus on Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI).

"We are looking forward to welcoming the First Lady and Dr. Biden to Yankee Stadium and Game 1 of the 2009 World Series," Commissioner Bud Selig said. "We hope their presence at both the game and the hospital visit will be an inspiration to the veterans, who proudly served our country. The support for WelcomeBackVeterans.org, an incredibly important initiative for Major League Baseball, will make a difference as we look to help today's veterans and military families with their transition back to civilian life."

Prior to the game, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden also will join Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees in visiting patients at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx.

Then the First Lady and Dr. Biden will escort Yankees legend and World War II veteran Yogi Berra and Tony Odierno, who will be throwing out the first pitch. Odierno, a West Point graduate who lost his left arm during the war in Iraq, received the Bronze Star with Valor and a Purple Heart and now works for the Yankees in Stadium Operations.

I hope they are roundly booed. These people no more support veterans today than they did 20 years ago. Maybe Mrs./Dr. Biden does. Mrs. “not proud of her country” until a year ago should get the treatment a lot of Vietnam era veterans received from her ilk. Our veterans have shed blood in opposition to communism—the very policies that the current White House is trying to cram down our throat.

Game 2 will focus on Volunteerism and Community Service

They have invaded Baseball now too?

Well at least it's Yankee Stadium and not Fenway Park ;)

“I hope they are roundly booed.”

I hope not. I’m no Michelle Obama fan but she is the First Lady, whether we like it or not, and this is in appreciation of the military. And this is what the Obamas do, they insert themselves into everything. We’ve got 3 more years of it at least.

OK. I take it back. I hope they are treated to silence but that the veterans are cheered.

Will ∅b∅z∅ follow her on AF1? Isn't that SOP for these usurpers? Waste a lot of gas so that they can get away from the pressures of the job. No better way to unwind than to take a taxpayer funded junket to the World Series to see two teams that's not even from your home town. Oh, I forgot that Kenya doesn't have a MLB franchise.

HORRIABLE, I’M SUPRISED AT THE YANKEES. I WONDER IF MICHELLE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE GOD BLESS AMERICA WHEN IT IS PLAYED IN THE BOTTOM OF 7TH. LOOKS LIKE THE OBAMA AND BIDEN PEOPLE NEED SOME RATINGS BOOST. WHO INVITED THAT BEAST TO YANKEE STADIUM.

This will be the first World Series in decades I will not be watching. Not so much for this gesture since this is the first I have heard of it but I have stopped caring about sports in general. This years Super Bowl will likely not be watched by me as well.

I love baseball but that’s one reason why I probably won’t watch. Can’t stand either team!
