Avast False Positives

Posted on 12/02/2009 10:43:24 PM PST by BulletBobCo

I have Avast free anti virus on a computer and have seen what appears to be some false positive trojan horse hits. Has any other Avast users seen this?

“I have avast, no problem because I don’t use IE.”

OK, since a thread has opened on computer problems, I do not feel shy to post mine.

I love Firefox. The look is great and much classier then IE.
I may, however, have to give it up.
The longer it is open, the computer slows to a crawl.
For example, I can be typing an email, then as I type, the characters stop printing on the screen. I have seen it go maybe 3 min. before they show up.

Last night, I was about to smash my computer, as everything slowed to a crawl.
I get stuck with an hourglass, and often the HD is going nonstop. I have defraged but have very little on the drive.
(Toshiba Laptop)
I notice that the “commit charge” stays very high.
I went back to IE this morning and went all day with no problems. I am, however back on Firefox to see what happens.
I also note that every time I accept the Firefox upgrades, my problems get worse.
I confess, the computer stays on and connected 24 hours a day.

Two in the last two days.

I put the “infected” files in the virus chest and go on line to see if there really is a problem. In this case they were false positives- one was SpybotSD.

I have used Alvira and AVG and prefer Avast. I would rather have a few false positives than have a less sensitive program that lets things through. AVG did.Took a while to clean up that mess.

Got a warning from Avast just two (2) days ago when opening either FR or Drudge (had opened a couple of windows). Aborted the connected since it gave me the choice. One of the open browswer windows didn’t close and I don’t have a clue as to what it was.
