So, about 3300 LY away. Assuming a particle stream traveling at somewhat less than the speed of light as the primary destructive agent (if there are any), that gives us a few thousand years to come up with something. So, any ideas? Some kind of Dyson Sphere surrounding the Earth, or significant parts thereof? Maybe a magnetic deflector field to shunt those particles off to the side? I’m sure the techie-trekkies among us can come up with something.

When one looks at a star 3300 LY away, one is looking at the past, 3300 years ago - so whatever process has happened so long ago in this star’s history, we will experience in our world’s future. We may have time to prepare but it is no 3300 years - the radiation (”cosmic” rays) travel quite close to or at the speed of light, and will do what they will do.

that gives us a few thousand years to come up with something. So,

Someone unclear with the concept.

The fact that it is 3260 LY away doesn't mean that we already received the email

It could have happened already 3259 years ago,and we would blissfully ignorant.

Doesn't that suck?
