The implications of this are pretty huge. I’m sure the diamond industry will put the kabosh on it though.

We have a meteorite that was found about 40 years ago. It weighs about 25lbs. Any bids?

Nothing really new here. We’ve known about diamond dust from meteorites for a long time.

I watched a show about meteorite hunters and they found some with unshattered olivine crystals.

The regular olivine crystals go for around a buck per carot but the unshattered olivine goes for around $1000 per carot.

Since Diamond defines a crystallographic structure, this a bit misleading. Especially, when the diamond gemstones we associate with the colloquial term "diamond" is made up of pure Carbon in its pure form.

There may be other compounds which the crystals are arranged in the diamond matrix, which might also be called diamond, provided they assume this matrix.

There might be impurities or polycrystalline interlockings which attribute to a possible higher hardness, but generally the strength is decreased.
