Does this mean that I will have to put my computer into an unplugged microwave to protect it?

Unplugged microwaves make great Faraday cages.

Unplugged microwaves make great Faraday cages.

I basically do that. I found a great deal on metal filing cabinets (which when grounded also make excellent Faraday cages) in which I store most of my primary and all of my secondary electronic gear.

Also have a reasonable DC backup power supply available. If nothing else, have an inverter available for your car that will give you at least 500 watts. That way you can at least charge up your communications gear, flashlight batteries, etc.


Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.
