When humans were nothing more than savage beasts, they “took care” of their older tribal members by taking away their food. These unfortunate souls, robbed of their food, soon died from malnutrition.

As this nation ages (i.e. the Baby Boomers), the ancestral mechanism that kept people alive as they got older, is causing weight gain on a demographic scale. As a person ages their biological makeup is designed to store calories in fat to enable survival when food is scarce (as when they are robbed of their food). Now the government is thinking that they should curb these older people’s calorie intake, much like was done in earlier times. This will only cause malnutrition as people attempt fail to maintain a nutritious diet while trying to comply with the government’s regulations. It will cause eating disorders like anorexia.

The weight gain in our nation’s youth is a reflection of what happens when a society has created a climate of fear for children to go outside and play. Too many children are fearful that they have no safe place to ride their bikes or play games. They would rather have the safety of their own living room with ready access to low activity video games and calorie ridden snack foods. Many parents promote this safe route because they are fearful of the possibilities (whether real or unreal) and transmit their fears to their children.

That was a great explanation about older people.

Something for me to ponder.

I say, "Brilliant observation," as I slap my head over the blinding flash of the obvious.
