One man has gone to extraordinary lengths to save his family's home from rising floodwaters...by building a giant levee and moat system.
Russell Petty, 50, of DeValls Bluff, Arkansas spent several weeks excavating and piling sand bags, including with the help of 100 friends and neighbors, reports The New York Times.
Mr Petty's home is menaced by high water from the nearby White River, in a state that has been badly battered by flooding and tornadoes this spring.

Mr Petty, who is reportedly a car mechanic, does not carry flood insurance, according to the paper, despite his property's exposure to danger.

Wow, that is cool.
I got to get me one one those tractors.
To: Palter
Maybe I’m wrong to say this but wouldn’t it be easier to just buy Flood Insurance? That’s a heck of a lot of work when you could go to your Insurance agent. lol

The day the video was taken the White River at DeValls Bluff crested at 36 feet.
Since that time the river has fallen 5 feet and as of 3 AM Sunday, May 15th it is at 31 feet.
The large flood control lakes on the White River in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri are at the top of their flood pools. Baring further heavy rains his labors have worked.

Sadly, you’re probably right.
My dad fought the EPA for dragging brush into a ravine that *used* to a stream...going by maps that are over a hundred years old.
This area is absolutely lousy with above/underground springs and they shift and change -constantly- but the EPA idiots had no clue.
The last time they showed up, dad just happened to be carrying a .308 as he came down the ridge to where they were parked.
They took off and never came back.
