Just heard from old network friend in NY. "Suits" at ABC are in panic mode over worries that Scientologists are flooding telephone and text voting to push Kirstie Alley to victory in tonight's final show of the DWTS season.
Alley is a Level 7 Scientologist and very public in her support of the "church." She credits it with saving her from drugs. The ABC "Suits" worry that Alley would do another "Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch"-type routine and tell America that she won the Mirror Ball Trophy because of Scientology.
That could be disastrous for one of ABC's top rated and most profitable shows. With the demise of Oprah and the failure of her network, DWTS is very popular with "The Great Unwashed".... the women TV is now totally targetted to.
Last season, there were rumors, never proved, that conservative audience telephone voters kept Bristol Palin on the show for an extended time because of their love for her mother. This year, the studio audience has been constantly packed with high-visibility Scientologists, such as Kelly Preston and others. John Travolta even made a special appearance on the show to support Alley.
ABC insiders say there are worries that Scientologists have been instructed to call and text as many times as possible to vote for the overweight and clumsy Alley. Some worry that a large number of calls coming from the 727 area code, covering Clearwater, Florida where Scientology is based, would be an indication of possible fraud in the voting.
Results will be announced tonight. Alley had the worst scores from the professional judges last night, and a victory tonight would certainly give rise to reports of Scientology taking extraordinary efforts to distort the results and buy themselves a victory. That could cost ABC and the Suits millions in advertising dollars next season due to lost viewership and public support.
As I said.... the Suits are worried.
Kristie is doing remarkedly well for a 60 year old, but she is NOT the best dancer needless to say.

I don’t see how anybody “rigging” the vote of the show is bad for them. At worst it creates pseudo controversy for the next season. It’s not like whoever wins actually matters, nobody is getting a big check, nobody is becoming a spokesperson for something, nobody is getting appointed to anything. The whole reason for the popular vote at all is to keep people watching, by letting the audience pick you guarantee that the people most popular stay on the show as long as possible, good for ratings. Doesn’t matter if they’re popular with scientologists or jedis, eyeballs is eyeballs.
My wife watches that show. She’s been complaining about Alley still being competitive this far along. I told her it’s rigged. Never gave Scientology a thought, though. Never knew she was a ‘tologist. Now, I think even less of her...
A large number of phone calls = fraud?? The rules say to call in as many times as you like for the candidate of your choice. Where’s the fraud?

After regaining all the weight she lost for Jenny Craig, Kirstie Alley has embarked on another public diet. But this time, the weight-loss program she’s selling is her own — and, the actress said, reports that’s it’s somehow connected to her Scientologist religion are unfounded.
On Tuesday in New York, TODAY’s Meredith Vieira asked Alley directly whether the “Organic Liaison” diet program is connected to Scientology.
“It’s such bullsh....” Alley started to say, before Vieira interrupted and stopped her from finishing a barnyard epithet.
‘It’s not true’
Vieira said that several Web sites and Scientology critics have reported that the directors of Alley’s company are top-level Scientologists, and that the business’s address is at the same building that houses Scientology offices in Clearwater, Fla.
“There are a lot of questions about how close these two groups are, and whether this isn’t just a front for Scientology,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Roger Friedman told NBC News.
“It’s not true. It’s not true,” Alley told Vieira. “I’m the top executive. The address in Clearwater is my accountant, and he’s a Scientology Jew. I don’t know what to say to it.”
Alley is one of several Hollywood celebrities — Tom Cruise and John Travolta are others — who are high-ranking members of the religion founded by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. Two years ago it was widely reported that she donated $5 million to the religion, earning her “diamond meritorious” status.
“Scientology” was founded on a bet by L. Ron Hubbard that he could invent the craziest “religion” imaginable and sell it.
His point was that P.T. Barnum was right.
When it started being a source of serious cash, L.R. just shut up and let the bucks roll in.

I don’t think there are enough scientologists in the entire country to make the difference in voting. Even if they do it two or three times, or try to.
