Incredible that the Voyagers are still sending useful and interesting data after 34 years. We couldn't build these craft today. We have lost the institutional knowledge that would enable us to do so.
We also couldn't replace the Apollo vehicles, despite tremendous technological advances since the 60's. We have lost the human resources necessary, thanks to the scumbags who have seized control of the gubmint these last twenty-odd years and wasted irreplaceable experience.

I thought we haven't sent out probes like these because there hasn't been a planetary line up that has allowed the probes to slingshot from one planet to the next. Imagine what we could learn with the new technology available to us if the planets were to be aligned right.
