Yeah, you could be correct.

I’d recommend everybody getting in contact with their representative.

Damn, Harper, take a chill pill and back off a bit!

Harper is doing what is best for his constituents. Obama is posturing to his base, and not acting in anyone’s best interest except his own.

See the difference? I know it might be a strain, but give it a go, eh?

Uh huh.

I’m sure your country would be willing to have Russia at your doorstep. You guys, for your own sake, wouldn’t let it gat that far.

We may be a bit thinly populated, but we’re wiry. :)

As I said, and I’ll say it again until you get it, Harper going to China won’t prevent you from getting your share on my delicious oil when you guys finally make a decision.

Would you like me to send you a cup of crude to wet your lips by and keep you going until Congress comes around?

The only ones who have made comments about this are Levin, Hannity, Rush and Palin.

The GOP needs to die and a new movement rise from its’ ashes, and nominating Romney WILL be the last straw for them.

Imo, Harper is the best PM Canada has had overall in the last sixty years, since Diefenbaker.

Thanks for the link. So are you telling me that we actually got some new refinery permits? Cause when GWB was first running I thought I remembered Cheney saying that we hadn’t had any new refining capacity added for decades.

I related Keystone to the other bilateral infrastructure project, DRIC (Detroit River International Crossing). It seems as if the US political/legal system is tying the economy in knots.

Umm, your president is the representative of the people of the United States of America. The majority of voters WANTED him to be president. Why would any foreign country question that fact or whether or not he will be around for another four years?

Keystone and DRIC are not apples and oranges. They are both infrastructure projects aimed at fostering trade. Moreover, they are both going to be built AT NO COST to the US taxpayer. They are both being stalled for the same reason, a lack of political will.

You can guarantee his defeat in November? I didn't think he would be elected in the first place, I bet you didn't either.

Did you read the article? Here is the money quote:

"Harper looks at the Obama Administration and understands that they have no intention of ever increasing the supply of proven energy sources. With Obama and the far Left, of course, attempting to discern a logical reason for what amounts to economic suicide is a fool’s errand. It’s not like the pipeline hasn’t been “studied” for years, so Obama’s excuse that more time is needed is ludicrous. The other objection, as far as I can tell, is that many Lefties think that the oil sands shouldn’t be developed at all, as if stopping the Keystone Pipeline would achieve that result. It won’t, regardless of what Obama’s Hollywood brain trust says. The fact is that output from the Canadian Oil Sands will triple in the next 25 years. The only question is who will benefit from its development: Canada and the U.S. — or Canada and China? For any president other than the current one, this would be nothing more than a rhetorical question.

Get a new president, it will change everything. Until you do, foreign countries have to deal with the one you have, and they have to consider the possibility that he will be there for another term.

Diefenbaker? Diefenbaker? DO NOT mention his name in the same breath as Harper.

Diefenbaker was a small minded man. He had no vision of Canada as a great nation. He killed a world class aviation industry for no apparent reason. We are still paying the price for his lack of vision and leadership.

I said, “since”. That should tell you something about the successive PM’s, imo.

The reason why the Avro was killed, was because the US military was wanting to move away from manned jets to missiles, or so they said anyways. That pretty much left us high and dry as far as jet-plane development goes. We would have spent billions and had nothing to show for it. It wasn’t viable, regardless of how good it was.

No, I can't. However, you still don't seem to get it! If the decision is to be made next month what difference does it make if he's elected again in November?
DUH!

Harper looks at the Obama Administration...
That's called a cop out. The Obama Administration won't be around forever. As you and your fellow Canooks keep saying, he'll do what's best for Canada anyway so it doesn't matter what administration is in office.

Still waiting for someone, anyone, to answer my question...What does one more month matter when it's been three years already?

I will admit to being a Westerner who felt used at being little more than cannon fodder for the federal parties.

Obama’s tactic on developing our oil and gas resources. Stall until the opportunity is out of reach and then blame the Republicans for the loss. And his faithful followers will swallow his bs.

While I don't like Rick Perry much, he definitely has Obama beat here. Obama mucks around and stalls on development.

What does Rick Perry do? Back in 2010 he went to China and lobbied the Chinese to invest in Texas' oil and gas industry. And they did so, investing between $1 billion and $2 billion into South Texas oilfields.

Thanks to Perry getting the Chinese to buy stakes in Texas oilfields, there are going to be dozens of oil wells up and running by the end of this year that otherwise wouldn't exist.

I assume you were not directly involved in this project. From what I understand TransCanada executives and Canadian politicians were completely blindsided when Obama turned Keystone down. Look at it logically, and reread the article. At some point you have to take the rhetoric at face value. Words mean things. Like Rush, I live in realville.

Obama's entire career has been anti business and particularly anti energy.

"Harper looks at the Obama Administration and understands that they have no intention of ever increasing the supply of proven energy sources."

Hasn't this been Obama's "energy policy" all along? Squeeze oil and go solar and wind. Cut the supply of oil and watch the price rise to make solar and wind more economically viable. Wake up and smell the coffee, Phil. Your president's energy policy is higher energy prices through supply reduction. Look at his words, but particularly look at his actions. He closes down drilling. He refuses leases. He stalls pipelines. What does that tell you? Wake up, man.

Unlike you and I, Harper has met Obama and taken his measure. He has a large dossier on your president. Maybe he believes what is in the dossier. Maybe he believes Obama's energy policy is less energy supply. I do.

Now to answer your question. At some point enough is enough. You have to look at alternatives, or at least seem like you are looking at alternatives. Enough is enough, now. It is time for Americans like yourself to concentrate the minds of their fellow citizens on this, and many other issues. Harper is going over Obama's head and helping you concentrate those minds.

So, you’re saying that Canada should wait and give up tens of billions in revenue, while waiting on your government to move forward on this project, which it may not. Especially if Obama manages to squeeeze into a second term which, unfortunately, he may manage to do.

Would you really take the same position, if it was your country in Canada’s position. Would you really phone your congressman up and tell him to wait on a vote, until Canada got its act together?

I don’t think so.

You are wrong about why the Arrow was killed. That plane was developed for a specific Canadian requirement. It was not developed to be sold to the US, although I'm sure AVRO would have sold the Americans as many as they wanted.

Look at how the Arrow was killed. Why cut up the prototypes and scrap them? Why send all that engineering talent to the four winds? Why not continue the project, maybe on a smaller scale? A lack of vision killed the Arrow, thank Dief.

I really don't want to get into an Arrow discussion, this is the wrong thread for that.

We should get into a fight about it.

It would let some Americans here know that not all Canadians are, “nice”. :)
