Heck, Michigan is already covered with water. You can’t turn around without stepping into a swamp, lake, or stream. I’ve read that we’re never more than a mile from some type of water body in Michigan.

You might enjoy this contrast, then, between your Michigan and Southern California: in all of SoCal, there is exactly one natural lake: Lake Elsinore. All the others were created by man-made catastrophes (Salton Sea) or dams.
