I think he was the subject of a lot of jokes too.

I remember in one of Aristophanes’ plays, an Athenian seeing a Spartan, who has been denied sex by his wife, asks if he was a man or Priapus.

Good memory, it’s in Lysistrata, but it’s a joke related to how the women withheld sex to stop a war. Yow, this PD translation is ye olde archaic English translation —
