Exactly... this is his way of sticking his thumb in America's eye. He knows we know he was never eligible, now he feels secure enough in his office to be able to openly gloat about it.
I read that Chester Arthur made White House troops salute some British regiment -- first U.S. President to have done so. Arthur wasn't eligible either; his dad was a British citizen when he was born (Leo Donofrio discovered this).

He will basically confess. He will be lauded by the press as America’s first foreign President. How diverse they will say!
