DENVER (April 25, 2013) – The route for the 2013 USA Pro Challenge professional cycling stage race, taking place Aug. 19-25 in Colorado, will take riders on a heart-pounding journey through the breathtaking Colorado Rockies. The largest spectator event in the history of the state, the USA Pro Challenge continues to set records in professional cycling history by taking the riders to unprecedented elevations. In 2012, with a lead change nearly every day, one of the closest professional races in U.S. history came down to the final moments of the Individual Time Trial in Denver, and this year’s route promises to bring just as much drama.

When I was last in Colorado Springs, it hadn’t been paved yet, and there was a thunderstorm enveloping the top of the peak, so a drive up was “out.” Google maps “scanned” the drive, so you can safely follow it up from the comfort of your computer chair (though even that made my palms sweat !).

WOWSERS GOOD ON YOU TEJAY!!!

I expected to see you take the TT ...and I expected to see you stretch your lead ... but, not by 1:30! You rock.

SAGAN AGAIN!

Peter Sagan is one cool customer. He reminds me of Abdujaparov in the way he can hold himself 'til the perfect moment, but also of Cipollini with the explosive power that gives him the ability to play it so cool.

This was great day for American cycling as Tejay heads home with this thing sewn up (barring injury) and the good job of showcasing Colorado by the broadcast team. I enjoyed the tour of New Belgium Brewery and the sponsorship by my favorite beer:

What happened to Estes Park? I’m watching stage 6 from Loveland to Fort Collins and I’m not seeing any Estes Park? Why did they promote this as a day through Estes Park? I’ve been from Loveland to Ft. Collins the straightest path and it ain’t so pretty. I was really hoping they were going to go the long way around through the park.

The route map shows a loop through the park with some climbing that I missed. I didn't get home until the last 45k.

I think I figured it out...apparently NBC showed the first half which went through Estes Park and I didn’t set that to record. I caught it part way through. Then NBCSports picked up the last half once they were well on their way to Fort Collins.

I wish they would have advertised the switch but I’m glad they gave us the entire stage in 2 parts instead of replaying only part of it twice.

Well, its all done. Not much excitement at the end. Sagan takes his fourth stage and Tejay has won the USAproChallenge.

Thanks for this very informative and entertaining thread, FRiend!

I was so sorry hubby and I missed the very end of the final stage of the USA Pro Challenge. We were gone all day on Sunday, so I DVR'd the 2-hour block of coverage on NBC Sports Network. We get to the end only to hear Phil Liggett say: "Well, that's our NBC Sports Network coverage for this final stage. Switch to NBC now to see the end of the race."

Grrr... So we missed the end of the race!!

My husband and I were gone all day on Sunday. I set the DVR to record only the 2-hour block on NBC Sports Network. So last night we're watching the final stage of the race... we get to the end only to hear Phil Liggett tell viewers to switch to NBC for the final part of the race. Grrr!!!

So we missed the all-important final miles of the race. Would have been nice to see the final sprint, and the podiums. Oh well... thank goodness for Baynative's thread!

The way NBC went back and forth between their regular NBC channel and NBC SN during this race and Tour de France really ticked me off... especially the USA Pro Challenge coverage, splitting one stage into parts between the two channels.

I miss the old Versus Network...

For what it's worth, I sent an e-mail about the annoying split coverage to:

Hrm, I never got your pings. Odd. In the old days, MAF would ping me too. Don’t know if that’s still the case.

I fastforwarded through the last Stage. Going in circles through a park didn’t interest me that much.

I still have Stage 6 in two parts on the DVR. Haven’t found the time to finish them, but I will.

Haven’t been on FR for a while. Concentrating on my own bicycling and losing weight.
Finished a 200 mile bike ride called the STP (Seattle to Portland) in 14.5 hours.
So far I have lost about 30 pounds, much faster and stronger than ever before. On top of that, I will be 59 years old on Saturday.

Happy riding to all my FR biking friends. Irishtenor
