This sort of thing doesn't really bother me.

You gotta pay lip service to this sort of thing.

Like saying nice things about JFK a couple of weeks ago.

Just one of those things you have to do :/

Not Saying I necessarily like Cruz going to Mandela's funeral, but my opinion of either hasn't changed because of it.

KC? Is that really you? Kinduv like bowing down on one knee instead of both, isn't it?

Yup. Appearing at such functions gives a Senator with higher aspirations some good experience in hanging with other world leaders, and that could prove valuable down the line. It also gets you some amount of notice, which is never a bad thing in politics.

There is nothing to gain in beating up on a dead man and everything to lose if the rest of the world is fooled by him.

Doesn’t matter to me one way or the other.

Nothing better than to have a true Conservative show up at a gathering of leftists. Why wasn’t Hillary there? Did Cruz shake hands with Castro? lol

Yours (along with Lazamataz’s) is one of the few sane posts on this issue I’ve seen on this forum in days. Let me repeat (paraphrasing myself) what I’ve said to re-enforce:

The man is dead. He hasn’t done anything of consequence (good or bad) in 20 years. In the last 15, at least, he’s only been at best a figurehead people of SA cling to as some kind of token reminder of a (fanciful?) glorified past.

A week ago, no one gave a flying fig about Mandela, now he’s become a reason to not only throw the Pope and Bush under the bus, but Ted Cruz, a man who is probably the most conservative of any viable presidential candidate for 2016.

Have we learned nothing from last year? Do we want the horrible “choice” of another Romney/McCain, or worse, some hopeless 3rd party candidate?

If things go well in 2014, (and that’s a big if, granted) then this country is going to need solid conservative leadership in the White House to finally excise the cancer of Obamacare from this country. It’s just not going to get done in 2015 or 2016, and certainly not in 2017 if we continue down this road of circular self destruction!

Wake UP people and look at the big picture for once! Pragmatism is NOT a bad word!

That’s my thoughts as well. There comes a time when we need to overlook some zits, and this one is minor. Ted has faaaaar too many good things to let this one cancel them all out.
