My folks lived across the street from the Area 2 base in Yokohama. The Sannotani streetcar came by in the street in front of our house a couple times each hour.
The streetcar “turnaround” track was a half block south. A streetcar in the middle of this procedure was knocked clear off the tracks when a big roller shook through. I was out front and saw the ground ripple and the streetcar bounce in a shower of sparks.
A very large tow truck lived the streetcar back on track.

now thats a rather...shocking experience indeed
I was in the hills north of san francisco when the Loma Prieta Earthquake hit back in the 1980’s and other than my car swerving on its OWN accord...saw no damage locally other than being without electricity for several hours.
I did sit out in my car listening to the news of the quake on the car radio as I watched the fires light up the bay!
