First, science "proved" climate change.

Now, "history" proves it too.

Uhm...except for the inconvenient fact that the Hittite kingdom of Anatolia wasn't a big consumer of fossil fuels...so maybe closing down coal plants isn't the way to go.

But don't bother to point out the fallacy of the left's arguments, you racist.

If it wasn’t for global warming — Chicago would still be under a mile of ice.

They unearthed those Anatolian SUVs yet? or a stone tablet depicting those several-miles-long Anatolian tailbacks . . . ?

Doomed the ancients? How can that be? No power plants...no coal production...no central heating...no air conditioning...no SUVs....

Perhaps this story is a blessing in disguise...a revelation that the climate has been changing...warmer,cooler,drier,wetter...for tens of thousands of years (at least).

Dear Mr Weetawded Author.

Your idiotic, though accurate historically account, disproves anthropomorphic or Hooman meddlen as the chief cause of anything, other than a certain avarice or necessity due to causes beyond their control and obviously ours.

Thnx for playing.

Obviously, the Hittites could have saved themselves by eliminating their reliance on the as-yet-uninvented internal combustion engine while paying indulgences to a doughy former politician who told them scary stories.

This article accidently points out how stupid their entire argument is, not that the typical Times absorber will notice.

What an idiot. Using naturally occurring droughts and such to debate someone’s skepticism on AWG.

No one really knows why the Hittite empire fell. But climate change is a constant in human history. The old Romans would probably be a little surprised to see their former grain fields in Northern Africa. And I don’t think it was the coal they were burning in their power plants.

Too bad for them they didn’t know how to convert fossils to fuel. Could have saved a lot of lives.

One of the more interesting observations of one born in my era is how far the NYT has fallen in intellect, believability, and most importantly - ability to affect events.

The entire staff would - quite simply - not even be hired as janitors a couple of decades ago.

Seems to me that all they are “proving” is that climate change is a natural event.

If I remember correctly, what happened to the Hittites, Greeks and Egyptians was a systematic migration of ethnic tribes who came and eventually threw the region into the first Dark Age, very similar to what happened with the Romans and the German tribes.

Periodic climate change is the rule scientifically as well as historically. That’s life folks, no getting around it. Both globally and regionally, the climate changes for a multitude of reasons. Regional variations are common.
