Anyone know anything about genetic testing?

I’m tempted to get a National Geographic geographic test… As a female, I understand that all I can find out is female lineage. I might pay for my male cousin’s too to see where the male side of my family came from. (our grandfathers were brothers.)

Yes. You have your mother's mtDNA and your father's yDNA, you will pass on your and your mother's mtDNA to your daughters...you will not pass on your fathers DNA. Your brothers will pass on his DNA but not their mothers DNA..

BTW, I just submitted another sample for an expanded DNA test. These original tests were 12 marker tests and I'm upgrading to a 37 marker test at the request of my 'surname DNA project' group.
