Fact is, Sam didn’t deserve the pick up he got in the first place... he decided to play the gay card to up his chances of getting drafted.... and true to form the NFL played into it... gave a guy on the bubble who should not have been drafted a shot, and like most guys on the bubble he got flushed out because he couldn’t hang.

Reality is, had Sam not came out, he likely would not have gotten drafted at all... it was a cold and calculated move on his part, and it got him a chance at the table he probably didn’t deserve. Then he wound up being flushed for his performance not his gayness.

Go live your life Sam, you didn’t cut it in the NFL, nothing to be ashamed of, just how it played out... What is something to be ashamed of is playing the gay card to try to make it happen and then the victim card when it didn’t work out.

There is a HUGE difference between being a "great guy" who gets along well with teammates, and being a professional-caliber PLAYER.

Yup. That's a "safe, I really don't hate gays, so don't crucify me" statement if I've ever heard one.

I too, for instance, am a great guy, and I suspect that I'd get along pretty well with any team.

I'm also middle aged, overweight, and balding. Not much of an NFL prospect.

Tim Tebow wasn't much of an NFL QB. His delivery was slow and telegraphed. He was a decent scrambler, and did best when John Fox threw away the game plan, ie, street football (Charlie, you're the bottlecap. You go long. Fred, you're the stick. Cut left and I'll fake it to you).

Not much use in an NFL that's mostly scripted.

However - and this is the intangible - Tebow was a winner. I remember reading about him in the huddle. The Broncos were down 30-odd points, but the players said that they still thought they were going to win. Here's a bunch of jaded pros, down 30 in the 4th quarter, and they're thinking that Tebow is going to pull it out, somehow. Can you put a price on that kind of leadership?

I'm not sure how good he ever could have been, but it's sad that he never got a chance due to the media circus. I think, with his integrity and work ethic, he'd be a great coach.

Regardless of how good/not good Sam might be it looks to me like none of the teams wanted to field him because he would get shredded. Given the chance I know I would have layed him out-—between the whistles of course. It’s just not good to take the field after shooting ones mouth off about how cool/special/deserving/talented/queer one might be. “shut up and play” is always good advice.

Yeah, he’s been frozen out...it’s called a lack of talent and it happens to hundreds of football players every year.

Sam is too small to play inside at defensive tackle or nose tackle, and too short/slow to play on the edge at DE or outside linebacker. It has nothing to do with his sexual preference and everything with his genes and the talent required to be a DL in the NFL.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been drafted in the first place.

Hammer, meet nail. There are lots of players who never break that code and wonder why “lesser” athletes spend years in the league and they can’t make the roster out of training camp. In most cases, the marginal guys who make it understand the game isn’t about them (individually) and they’d better work their butts off to make the team and stay there.

As a marginal player, Michael Sam and his media feeding frenzy simply weren’t worth the time or trouble. When I was an ROTC instructor at an SEC school, there was a young man on the football team who was an average prospect out of high school; in fact, he was signed because the team was struggling at the time and had just experienced a coaching change. The player worked his way up to starting LT by his senior year, but was undrafted. Signed as a free agent, worked hard, made the roster and eventually spent 10 years n the league, while many of the “stars” from his graduating class flopped.

Knew another kid from the same team, same era who was (arguably) a much better player. Spent a year on the practice squad, then got into a major altercation in training camp the next year. Got cut the next day and never played with another NFL team. Attitude, conduct and work ethic still count for a lot if you’re one of those guys who fights for a roster spot every year.

“I am sick of hearing about all the homo stuff. I am ready for all those that came out to go back in the closet.”

Jerry Smith was a tight-end, ( no pun intended, ) for the Washington Redskins. After he retired he got AIDS and died. He came out of the closet when he announced he had contracted AIDS, only after retiring.

Dave Kopay was a running back for the SF 49ers. After he retired he came out of the closet.

Why can’t these current perverts keep their mouths shut until after they retire?

I believe some want to feel like a victim. Victimhood can go a long way in our society.

Sam should go get his genitals cut off and start hormone therapy after converting to Islam. Then he can play the gay, black, mulsim, transgender cards all at once.

I forget who the NFL player said he doesn’t want to see an out gay player because it would turn the game in to all gay all the time and would dominate every discussion about the sport. How right he was.

The best thing Michael Sam has going for him is that he’s gay, and activists wonder why he can’t make it in the NFL. If Sam was an actual athlete, he wouldn’t have had to kiss a guy to get noticed by the draft.

Sorry, Peter. I wouldn’t want to sniff Michael Sam, either.

They came from behind because Tebow put them there.

The problem is that Michael Sam’s skills as a defensive player are too limited for today’s NFL. Even linemen need to be much more intelligent because today’s offenses and defenses are so sophisticated in play calling.
