Playing the gay card. The author claims "Sam is the only drafted Defensive Player of the Year of any of the big five football conferences - ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 12 and SEC - in the last 20 years to not make an active roster his rookie season"

The SEC has only selected a defensive player of the year starting in 2003. One of the co-defensive winners from the Big 12 in 2013, Jackson Jeffcoat, went undrafted. Was cut from Seattle, cut and resigned by the Deadskins and played in a garbage Week 16 game.

Those sources foretold the 2014 season for Sam, who fell to the seventh round of the NFL Draft and was cut by two teams.

I suggest that his horrible performance at the combine did more to drop is stock in the draft than his sexual orientation did.

Sam was the Defensive Player of the Year for the SEC because the other tackle required DOUBLE TEAM BLOCKING. Sam benefited from that.

I am sick of hearing about all the homo stuff. I am ready for all those that came out to go back in the closet.

Yet amidst the celebration, the writing on Sam’s 2014 NFL wall started three hours after his big announcement a year ago. Days earlier CBS Sports had ranked Sam their No. 90 pre-Draft prospect, projected to be selected in the third round. Simply based on the fact that Sam came out as gay - based on nothing but his sexual orientation - CBS Sports dropped him to pick No. 160 - Mid-fifth round.

In the eyes of CBS Sports, being gay in the NFL cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars and put your draft stock in jeopardy. They weren’t the only ones.”

what a complete joke and spin of the facts...

1) Sam was awful at the Senior Bowl in 2014 and when asked to play linebacker, the position he projected to in the NFL, looked lost and out of place....conversely Marcus Smith of Louisville looked terrific and ended up in the first round...

2) Sam was even worse at the combine, unable to break 4.9 seconds in the forty at 260 lbs....his other marks (bench, jumps, shuttles) were equally as bad....

I, too, have been frozen out of the NFL. They have unfairly denied me the opportunity to realize my dream of being an NFL running back because I am fat, old, lazy, and slow.

I do not understand why Michael Sam did not try to join a team in the CFL. It seems the Canadian game might be better suited for a smaller, pash rushing defensive lineman.

One of the most nauseating things I ever saw on TV was Sams smooching his fruitcake “wife” on national TV when Sams was drafted by the Rams.

What team wants to deal with the distraction if an outed homosexual on the team?

None is my guess unless this guy is a true franchise player. Which he was not.

The other ones could play football at an NFL level. Post snap pictures consistently showed Sam in his stance with all 21 other players in motion.

He’s just not a very good player. And tried to finagle his coming out into being hired.

If the NFL couldn’t find a spot for Tim Tebow, quarterback for a national championship college team, they certainly shouldn’t find an affirmative action job for a player just because he is homosexual.

Fact is, Sam didn’t deserve the pick up he got in the first place... he decided to play the gay card to up his chances of getting drafted.... and true to form the NFL played into it... gave a guy on the bubble who should not have been drafted a shot, and like most guys on the bubble he got flushed out because he couldn’t hang.

Reality is, had Sam not came out, he likely would not have gotten drafted at all... it was a cold and calculated move on his part, and it got him a chance at the table he probably didn’t deserve. Then he wound up being flushed for his performance not his gayness.

Go live your life Sam, you didn’t cut it in the NFL, nothing to be ashamed of, just how it played out... What is something to be ashamed of is playing the gay card to try to make it happen and then the victim card when it didn’t work out.

Yeah, he’s been frozen out...it’s called a lack of talent and it happens to hundreds of football players every year.

Sam is too small to play inside at defensive tackle or nose tackle, and too short/slow to play on the edge at DE or outside linebacker. It has nothing to do with his sexual preference and everything with his genes and the talent required to be a DL in the NFL.

Sam should go get his genitals cut off and start hormone therapy after converting to Islam. Then he can play the gay, black, mulsim, transgender cards all at once.

I forget who the NFL player said he doesn’t want to see an out gay player because it would turn the game in to all gay all the time and would dominate every discussion about the sport. How right he was.

The best thing Michael Sam has going for him is that he’s gay, and activists wonder why he can’t make it in the NFL. If Sam was an actual athlete, he wouldn’t have had to kiss a guy to get noticed by the draft.

The problem is that Michael Sam’s skills as a defensive player are too limited for today’s NFL. Even linemen need to be much more intelligent because today’s offenses and defenses are so sophisticated in play calling.
