Did you know Jeb Bush is Catholic? Neither did I, Maher wrote, before pointing out that Bush converted to Catholicism in 1996 22 years after marrying his Mexican-born wife, Columba, and conveniently between the first time he ran for governor (and lost) and the second time he ran, and won.
The Bushes play election hardball, but they also play the margins. They look for every little edge, he added.
As Maher put it, George W. Bush became an Evangelical Christian before running for governor of Texas, a state where 34% of voters fall in that category. Similarly, Jeb Bush went from Protestant to Catholic and won the governorship in a state where 26% of voters are Catholic.

The left is shameless.
Similarly, Obama went Islam, to Christian, then back to Islam.
Catholics seem to vote more for liberalism than for someone being Catholic, for instance while Clinton and Gore and Obama won the Catholic voters, John Kerry narrowly lost them in 2004.
While Kerry was more liberal than George W. his incumbency in time of war seemed to overcome what might have been Kerry’s advantage gained in being Catholic.
I would rather lose an election than adhere to non-Biblical doctrines!
The state and health of America is such that, you can't go too far without someone reminding us about our Judeo-Christian roots ... which in time past may have been academic
I think today people are looking at religion and spiritual matters in a more serious way and are deciding their beliefs with more maturity
Jeb IS married to a woman of primarily strong Catholic background
Screw this little commie pinko fag.
Never occurred to Maher that Jeb is married to a Catholic?
Clinton did much the same in Arkansas in the 80’s.
You cannot out whore a whore.
Maher or Jeb...a pox on both their houses.
Interesting because I don’t think a Catholic has ever been nominated for President by the GOP.
It’s nice to see Bill Maher is still beneath contempt.
Obammy’s “Christian” phase must have been very very VERY short-lived
No, they haven’t, and only a couple VP candidates.
And Florida’s 26% Catholics aren’t far from the national average. Maher = fail.
The nice thing about Bill is although he may be a prick, he is a consistent prick.
Maher might be right. But I’d say Jeb was more likely to do it because the wife Colomba told him to do it. Seems she is the boss. Jeb even prefers to speak Spanish at home.
Lmao
Being Christian is no longer a plus in this damned nation.
ping without comment
Only three have ever been nominated by the democrats.
Well at least he and Jeb have something in common.
