Sounds very much like what you would expect from the cataclysm hypothesized by Firestone et al. Multiple bolides striking the earth in the Great Lakes/Canada area, instant glacial/ice cap melting and floods, the giant animals like mammoths, etc. killed. It is amazing that this could have been remembered for 12,000 years, so it must have been incredibly awesome.
